THE 21 & OVER Way

1. These rules require at least two players, shot glasses, liquor, and a timer. Remove the CLEAN SLATE, STRIKE, and ATTACK cards from the deck. These cards are not needed for this version of play. Shuffle the deck and gather all players in a circle with the buzzer and card deck in the center faced down.

2. Choose any player to start. The player will flip over the first card in the stack and lay it flat next to the deck.

3. The player will read the card in this format: “The category is _________. I can name ONE.”

4. Clockwise, the next player will say “I can name TWO.” The next player will say THREE, and so on.

5. Each player MUST say they can name the following number. When any player in the group believes someone is lying, they will hit the buzzer and ATTACK that player by saying “I KNOW YOU FUCKIN’ LYIN!”

6. Turn over the sand timer (or use a 30-second timer). The attacked player must immediately prove they can name the amount of items they claimed within 30 seconds. If the attacked player succeeds, the attacking player must take a shot. If the attacked player fails, that player must take the shot.

7. The player who wins the duel, keeps the card.

8. The player who loses the duel, pulls the next card and starts the next round.

9. First player to accumulate SEVEN cards wins.

*Once a player receives FOUR points/cards, shuffle the order of play. Every player must sit in a different seat.

*Feel free to play this version without liquor of course!

THE CHALLENGE WAY

1. These rules require at least two players, the timer, buzzer, the CLEAN SLATE, STRIKE, and ATTACK cards from the deck. Separate the red strikes cards from the deck and place aside. Shuffle the deck and gather all players in a circle with the timer and card deck in the center faced down.

2. Choose any player to start. This player will begin the game by challenging another player to a duel. Once the player is chosen, the challenged player will draw one game card. The challenged player who drew the card will begin by saying they can name ONE item within the drawn category. The player will read the card in this format: “The category is _________. I can name ONE.”

3. The challenging player will immediately say they can name TWO, and so on, just like the 21+ version of play, both players in the duel MUST say they can name the following number. When one of the two players believes that the other is lying, they must hit the buzzer and say“I KNOW YOU FUCKIN’ LYIN!” Flip the hourglass to begin the timer.

4. The attacked player must immediately prove they can name the amount of items they claimed within 30 seconds. If the attacked player succeeds, the attacking player receives a red STRIKE. If the attacked player fails, that player receives a red STRIKE

5. The losing player of the duel will then challenge another player in the group. The losing player cannot choose the same player they dueled against in the previous round. A player who receives three red strikes is eliminated. The last player standing is the winner of the game.

*If a player draws a CLEAN SLATE card, all of their strikes are erased from the game. If a player draws a STRIKE card, the player will be penalized one strike. If a player draws an ATTACK card, the player can choose any player to receive a red STRIKE. The round is over for the player who draws any of these special cards. The player that was challenged must then continue the game, drawing the next card and challenging a new player.

NO CHEATING

1. NO EXCESSIVE PAUSES. During the counting phase of each round, the next number must be called as quickly as possible. Pausing to think before saying your number is against the rules!

2. NO TALKING ACROSS THE TABLE. Unless otherwise stated as a house rule, there is no helping other players as they play their turn. If a player is caught cheating, feel free to suggest a penalty!

3. NO STACKING. If the category is Hot Beverages, you must name different types of hot beverages, not the same hot beverage with different variations. Acceptable response: coffee, tea, hot chocolate. Unacceptable response: coffee from Starbucks, coffee from The Bean, coffee from my house.

4. FULL NAMES ONLY. If the category is CELEBRITIES WITH THE SAME FIRST AND LAST INITIAL, the player must name the first and last name. Only naming the first or last name is not acceptable. Likewise, if the category is STATES WITH TWO WORDS, a player answering, "The Carolinas," is not considered correct. The player must name both North Carolina and South Carolina.

5. CARD FLIP BEGINS. Unless otherwise agreed upon by the rest of the players, once a card is flipped, it must be played. It is perfectly legal for a player to be attacked after only saying that they can name “one” of a certain category. If that player fails, they will receive a penalty and draw another card as the loser of that round.
